3. Saturday, 12Noon, Press Conf “Ludwig Did Not Have To Die” / Stop Privatization/Union Busing & Zero Covid
In person
SEIU – 1021 Office
350 Rhode Island # 100
SF
In September SEIU 1021 SF Homeless Shelter worker Ludwig Leota despite an underlying health condition was forced to go out on the job and died from Covid. Leota begged not only CCSF managers to allow him to continue to work at home but also SEIU 1021 staff that this would be a death sentence.
They refused to protect his life and part of this press conference will be dedicated to his life and other vulverable workers who need PPE and proper protection. Most of these workers are BIOP.
We need a Covid Zero policy with a protcol for full testing for all city workers and the public, free N95 masks for all DPH and public workers as well as the right to remote work for vulnerable workers.
It will also report on the continued privatization and outsourcing of public jobs to “non-profits” which pay less and do not have the pensions and other benefits of public workers.
The top union offiicals are helping to set up a two tier system that is incentivizing the outsourcing of jobs into a two tier system such as at Healthcare 360. The State SEIU have agreed to support this operation siphoning off hundreds of jobs from SEIU public worker members.
We need equal pay for equal work and an end to substandard public service jobs. This is union busting.
The SEIU 1021 and San Francisco Labor Council Public Employees Committee have also agreed with City bosses to allow the termination of workers who are not vaccinnated.
The top SEIU leadership have also prevented elected bargaining committee members from participating in negotiations unless they are vaccinated and are trying to rig the negotiations.

6. Tuesday, Close Guantanamo Now! 20 Years Too Long!!
Listing of events nationally (Virtual and In person): January 2022: Events marking 20 years of Guantanamo – Witness Against Torture
(Some events started on 1/7/22)
On Tuesday January 11, the 20th anniversary of Guantanamo, leaves 39 men, 13 of whom have been approved for release, some for many years, still imprisoned. Another 14 are “forever” prisoners, without charge or path to trial. Only 12 have charges out of 779 men imprisoned. Nine of those died, three of suspicious “suicides.”
America’s War of Terror on the Geneva Conventions and international law demands a reckoning. Witness Against Torture will stand with the 39 Muslim men still in locked in Guantanamo, and we’ll stand from coast to coast. Stalwarts from Maine to Orcas Island off the Washington coast will witness in orange jump suits in their communities.

Israel’s Orwellian lawfareprotects crimes against humanity, criminalizes human rights, andperverts the course of justice
In October 2021, Israel shocked the world by officially designating six outstanding, respected Palestinian organizations as “terrorists,” making them vulnerable to all the legal ramifications of that label, including Israel’s draconian 2016 Counter-Terrorism law.
That outrageous action was just the latest assault in the long history of Israeli lawfare against those who defend Palestinian human rights: manipulating legislation, political labels, and their own judicial system to muzzle human rights defenders, violate international law with impunity, and hide the reality of Israeli apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and brutal oppression.
This panel discussion will look at the history of attacks on these groups, the latest developments, and the bigger picture of Israeli legal assaults against prominent human rights defenders and humanitarian organizations.
Why these particular NGOs out of the hundreds in Palestine? What reasons does Israel give and what have these six groups been doing to become prime targets of the Israeli government? What has happened to them since Israel first took this step? Who else has been targeted by Israel’s lawfare tactics and what happened to them? What can we expect from Israel on this front in 2022 and what can the global community do?
Panel:
SAHAR FRANCIS, General Director of Addameer, one of the organizations under attack
ADDAMEER (Arabic for conscience) Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association is a Palestinian civil institution that works to support Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli and Palestinian prisons.
BRAD PARKER, Senior Advisor, Policy and Advocacy at Defense for Children International – Palestine, one of the organizations under attack
Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) is an independent, local Palestinian child rights organization dedicated to defending and promoting the rights of children living in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Since 1991, they have investigated, documented, and exposed grave human rights violations against children, provided legal services to children in urgent need, and advocated at the international and national levels to hold Israel accountable to universal human rights principles.
JONATHAN KUTTAB, International human rights attorney, Executive Director of Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), co-founder of Al Haq, one of the organizations under attack
Al-Haq is an independent Palestinian human rights organization based in Ramallah, West Bank. Established in 1979 to protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), the organization has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Al-Haq documents violations of the individual and collective rights of Palestinians in the OPT and seeks to end such breaches by way of advocacy before national and international mechanisms and by holding the violators accountable.
M. Theresa Basile (Moderator), UMKR Communications Director and co-founder, Board Member at Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), former Steering Committee Member at US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR)

– RSVP for further info
Meet at:
Port of Oakland
2777 Middle Harbor Rd.
Oakland
Schedule:
- 11 am – Meet at the Port of Oakland & listen to speakers on radio
- 12:30 pm – Car caravan departs & ends with drive-thru mutual aid giveaway organized by Community Ready Corps and Mental Health First
Virtual options: We will be live-streaming the first half of the caravan on our Facebook with ASL interpretation. Other virtual options TBA throughout MLK Weekend.
For the 8th consecutive year the Anti Police-Terror Project invites the Bay Area into the streets of Oakland to Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy!
This year, due to the uncontrolled spread of omicron, we will have another car caravan that will conclude with a mutual-aid drive-thru giveaway.
Join us to caravan and mourn the hundreds of lives we’ve lost to violence in the streets in just the last two years, as well as those lost at the hands of police. In the radical spirit of Dr. King, we demand “an all-out war against poverty” and an end to violence through healing — not a war on people, not more police.
Every year we take MLK Day as an opportunity to celebrate and reclaim King’s true revolutionary spirit, which is especially important as our communities reel from the impacts of the ongoing pandemic. The impacts have manifested as increased gun violence in Oakland and even more tragic deaths on our streets on top of the thousands of lives lost to Covid.
One struggle one fight one people!

National Mobilization For Reproductive Rights
January 22 is the anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. Almost fifty years later, this right may be overturned unless the movement that won it is rebuilt. The majority are for abortion rights, so now is the time to show up and fight to keep this option.
The National Mobilization for Reproductive Justice calls on all feminists, LGBTQ+ activists, working people, and defenders of human rights to come out and fight for the full range of issues that comprise reproductive justice.
In addition to a rally and speak out for the necessity of all peoples to control their own bodies, we’ll also have a counter-presence at the anti-abortion “Walk for Life” rally beforehand.
Hosts: Reproductive Justice SF, Radical Women, U.S. and Freedom Socialist Party Bay Area
