And it also takes action from Congress to end it. The ‘91 and ‘02 AUMFs have been used by successive administrations to justify numerous interventions and drone strikes around the world. For over 30 years, presidents have been waging war with zero oversight.

Agenda: https://sfbos.org/sites/default/files/lut032023_agenda.pdf

Item # 3

“230260 [Administrative Code – COVID-19 Tenant Protections] Sponsors: Preston; Walton

Ordinance amending the Administrative Code to extend by 60 days the restrictions on evicting or imposing late fees on residential tenants who could not pay rent that came due during the COVID-19 emergency.”

Right now in San Francisco, tenants cannot be evicted for back rent (though back rent is still being accrued). This is a COVID policy, but we know it will likely end sometime after May. What we don’t know is when, or how much notice we will receive. Once the order lifts, tenants with back rent may be evicted right away – and the city’s rent relief program won’t be able to respond fast enough.

We’re asking the SF Board of Supervisors to create a 60 day grace period, so that once the protections end, tenants will have 60 days to apply for relief or get the other types of support we might need! VOTE YES
