2. Friday, 5:00pm – 6:00pm, Take Revolution to the Movie Lines for the film Oppenheimer

In person

Revolution Books Berkeley
2444 Durant  Ave.
Berkeley

Come to a planning meeting to enter in to the controversy around the film, “Oppenheimer”

Then join us at the 7:30pm showing of Oppenheimer at the Grand Lake Theater, Oakland

On Thursday, July 20, Oppenheimer, a major motion picture based on the life of Robert Oppenheimer, will open all across the U.S. J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist, was instrumental in the development of the world’s first atomic bomb in the 1940s as part of what was called the Manhattan Project.

July 16, 1945, “Trinity”, the first test of the atomic bomb blasted “successfully” across the New Mexico desert. A few weeks later, on August 6, a blazing, million-degree fireball suddenly appeared just above the Japanese city of Hiroshima, instantly killing, burning alive, or vaporizing tens of thousands. Firestorms engulfed the city. Shockwaves and winds over 1,000 miles an hour came next, shattering bodies and buildings, hurling men, women, and children through the air. Nearly all structures were destroyed over a mile from ground zero. 140,000 people, almost all civilians died in Hiroshima. Three days later a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

The dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan was a fitting ghastly start to what the U.S. Imperialist have called “the American century.” Never a word of regret from the US government for this crime against humanity, and the U.S. still has first use of nuclear weapons enshrined in its military doctrine.

This film is coming out at a time when the world is closer to world war, to nuclear Armaggedon, than it has been for decades. The U.S. is escalating its proxy war with nuclear-armed Russia over Ukraine; it is also ramping up its military threats and war preparations against China, which also has nuclear weapons. This is a time of grave existential danger to humanity and the planet.

But this is also a period of intensifying tearing apart of U.S. society, with the rulers at the top at each other’s throats—a rare time when there is also a greater chance to make emancipating revolution.

No World War 3—It Is This System, Not Humanity

That Needs To Become Extinct!

3.. Friday, 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Big Pharma, Biotech Leaks, Biotech Workers and OSHA

ZOOM

Online RSVP: LaborFest 2023 | Big Pharma, Biotech Leaks, Biotech Workers and OSHA

The biotech leaks continue to occur not only in China but also in the US. Despite the dangers to biotech workers in the United States, there are no enforced regulations for the hundreds of thousands of biotech workers in the United States, and OSHA does not even have a trained unit to deal with biotech releases according to former OSHA director David Michaels. There are less than 1900 OSHA inspectors for the entire United States which leaves protection of workers up to big pharma and other institutions running biotech labs.

Speakers:
Becky McClain, former Pfizer molecular biologist who was retaliated and fired for reporting biological leaks and was infected and sickened by biological material
Adam Finkel, Former OSHA official and Clinical Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Public Health
Sam Husseni, DC investigative journalist who has covered biotech accidents and the dangers to the public

Brothers on The Line is an award-winning documentary exploring the extraordinary journey of the Reuter brothers (Walter, Roy and Victor) three prolific union organizers who helped build the United Auto Workers (UAW). Directed by Sasha Reuter (Victor’s Grandson) and narrated by Martin Sheen this film includes graphic archival footage, a pulsating soundtrack as well as first-hand accounts from labor, management and political personalities including one of the last interviews with Senator Ted Kennedy.

The film shows the behind the headlines of picket line conflict, assassination attempts and inter -union power struggle during this forty-year crusade that led to unionization of GM, Ford and Chrysler auto workers known as the United Auto Workers (UAW). Also, the film shows how the UAW played a major role in underwriting the Civil Rights Movement, the farmworkers fight led by Cesar Chavez and helped raise living standards not just for the millions of autoworkers but also for a large number of American workers.

6. Friday, 7:00pm – 8:30pm (PT); 10:00pm – 11:30pm (ET), Webinar: Australia, Talisman Sabre, AUKUS and NATO in the Pacific.

Register: Webinar: Australia, Talisman Sabre, AUKUS and NATO in the Pacific. (actionnetwork.org)

This weekend’s ‘Australia, Talisman Sabre, AUKUS and NATO in the Pacific’ signals our concerns for the massive land exercises in Australia, involving 30,000 US & Australian personnel, plus others from 11 countries, during July and August, and calls for the cancellation of the recently signed Australia, United Kingdom and United States security partnership (AUKUS).

Talisman Sabre and AUKUS threaten to provoke war with China and destroy the environment, as well as furthering colonialism and systems of oppression.

To challenge Talisman Sabre and AUKUS, many Pacific region organisations including Pacific Peace Network and Independent and Peaceful Australia Network will host a “Call for Peace in the Pacific” conference on July 29 in Brisbane with speakers from across the Pacific, followed by educational events in Sydney, Canberra, and Darwin.

The aim of these events is to raise awareness within Australia and the Pacific region of the full impacts of allowing the US to base their military personnel, weapons, hardware and software on Pacific Sovereign Lands, by sharing the experiences of Pacific People.

The mock battlefield will be from Western Australia, across the Northern Territory and Queensland, to Jervis Bay and Norfolk Island in New South Wales.

SPEAKERS:

Diana Rickard, Darwin
Hon. Matt Robson, New Zealand
Dr Michelle Malony, Earth Laws
Anne Wright, Hawaii
Liz Remmerswaal, moderator

In person

474 Valencia St.
SF

The growing attack on immigrants and xenophobia is not new in the US. During every major economic downturn in the history of the US immigrants have been targeted. This is combined with the continuing US military economic agenda that has led to one war after another.

The US wars and interventions  in the Philippines, Cuba, Korea, Vietnam, Haiti, Central America, Iraq, Libya and now Ukraine have forced tens of millions of people from their homes and many have been driven to haven in the US where they are then targeted by politicians and anti-labor forces.

Speakers:

Christina Guiterrez, Community Activist
Pierre LaBossier, Haiti Action Committee
Lucretia Bermudez, with Colectivo Kausachun

9. Monday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm, People’s State of the Nation Address

In person

San Francisco Philippine Consulate
447 Sutter St.
SF

RSVP HERE

In solidarity with Bayan USA, the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP), Malaya Movement, and grassroots Philippine organizations across the Nation, we would like to formally invite you to attend the People’s SONA, short for People’s State of the Nation

People’s SONA (PSONA) functions as an alternative to the president’s State of the Nation Address, and exposes the US-Marcos II Regime’s continued selling out of the Filipino people. In his first year, Marcos Jr. has failed to fulfill his promises, and instead, responded to issues of insufficient wages, rampant contractualization, continued high inflation rates, and worsening economic crisis overall, with false “solutions” such as foreign investments, loans, schemes like the Maharlika Investment Fund, and selling out of the Philippines through participation in unequal trade agreements such as those being put forward by the US-led Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). In response to Marcos Jr.’s continued state neglect and political repression, our proposed call is Services, Not Surveillance for Filipinos Overseas! Release Assistance to National Funds Now! Through PSONA, we aim to bring together as many people as possible to show that we will not remain silent as the US-Marcos II Regime continues to kill, imprison, and neglect the Philippine masses.

PSONA is a worldwide event, with Filipino-led organizations and allies from all over the globe uniting to call out the lies and offenses of the US-Marcos II regime. By uniting behind and centering the voices of those oppressed and dispossessed by the Marcos Jr. administration, we address the true state of the Philippines, that which Marcos’ State of Nation Address hides behind faux nationalism and countless other falsehoods.

Atin ang Pinas! US at Tsina layas!

No to US bases in the Philippines!

Stop the attacks! Activism is not a crime!

The Philippines is not for sale! No to Marcos’ sell out at APEC!
