Lubetzky, like this institution, cloaks violence in the language of neutrality. Just as Berkeley pretends to stand above the fray while cracking down on pro-Palestine voices, Lubetzky has publicly encouraged greater suppression of protests against the genocide in Gaza including those on college campuses, like Columbia. To invite him is to side with power over justice, erasure over memory, and violence over solidarity.
Neutrality in the face of asymmetry is not virtue — it is violence. You are not honoring our class by platforming Lubetzky. You are spitting on the values many of us have risked so much to defend. You are pretending to commemorate a student body whose conscience you have systematically ignored.
We will not forget who stood silent and celebrated while Gaza burned.
