|Join the Political Action Committee of the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club on Tuesday, August 10 at 7pm. This meeting will be hybrid in person at 302 Valencia St and online via Zoom.
Register here to attend virtually here.
For our 8th meeting of 2021, the PAC will hear from Gary McCoy, Co-Chair of the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club, about his recent hunger strike and demand for the City to declare the overdose epidemic a public health emergency. Gary will explain how safe consumption sites, which offer a place for people to use drugs under medical supervision, save countless lives every day and why there is no excuse for waiting to open one in San Francisco.
In solidarity with Gary’s efforts, our Executive Board passed a motion calling for a commitment from City leaders for San Francisco to move forward with Safe Consumption Sites regardless of stalled state legislation, and for San Francisco to declare a State of Emergency around the overdose crisis and authorize, fund and implement Safe Consumption Sites.
For more background, you can read Gary’s post in Medium. Also, the Mayor’s Office released a statement last week announcing the launch of a new street team to stop drug overdoses.
As previously mentioned, fully vaccinated and COVID-symptom-free Members and non-Members alike are welcome to attend our first in-person Milk Club PAC meeting in over 17 months at 302 Valencia Street. Proof of vaccination will be required at the door, and per local health orders masks will be mandated indoors at all times. We also respectfully request that you enjoy all food and beverages outdoors. Unvaccinated members and those experiencing symptoms are welcome to attend via Zoom.
