Despite the media telling us the US military had been in Afghanistan to help the Afghan people, we know that’s not the case – the Afghan people have long suffered under US violence, and will now continue to suffer under the Taliban. The 20-year occupation – and the decades of interference and manipulation that preceded it – was profitable for weapons manufacturers, private military contractors and investors, and world banks, all at the grievous expense of Afghan lives and livelihoods.

That is why, as socialists, we must not only condemn US militarism, but also occupations, interference in foreign affairs, sanctions, and other unjust humanitarian practices. We must stand firmly in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and call for an end to the Global War on Terror. We must also accept all refugees resulting from previous and current acts of war.

Please join us this Saturday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Square, where we will make these demands and show our solidarity with the Afghan people. We hope you can join us!

Solidarity,
