San Francisco Education Alliance

The March 5 primary election is right around the corner! Many of you have probably already received your ballots. We’d like to invite you to check out this list of endorsements/explanations from the San Francisco Berniecrats’ trilingual voter guidewhich is printed in Spanish, Chinese, and English. Like the SF Education Alliance, SF Berniecrats is a Our Revolution affiliate.

In order to defeat the billionaire money pouring into this election, we need volunteers to hand out trilingual voter guides in front of your schools, outside your CCSF and SF State campus buildings, at farmers markets, Muni stops and at BART stations. Please sign up to had out guides by emailing us at info@sfeducationalliance.comWe will deliver them to you and try to find an SF Education Alliance volunteer who can join you in handing them out.

County Central Committee Candidates are on the Ballot. What Do They Do?

If you are a registered Democrat, your ballot will list candidates for the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC), which is a group of elected party leaders who set the local policy agenda, endorse candidates and measures that align with the values of the Democratic Party, and engage our communities by organizing and registering people to vote.

Question: Why is this imporant?

Answer: Endorsements from the San Francisco Democratic Party can make the difference on whether or not progressive candidates and ballot measures win or loseSo, it’s a big deal!

On March 5, 2024, all 24 seats on the San Francisco DCCC are up for election!

Our Revolution, our parent organization, has joined SF Berniecrats in endorsing the Labor and Working Families slate of candidates running for seats on the Democratic County Central Committee

SF Politics 101: What Does the Democratic County Central Committee Have to Do with Public Education?

Quite a bit, actually! In addition to making endorsements for school board and CCSF Board of Trustees, the DCCC votes on resolutions. In October 2023, SF Education Alliance members wrote a resolution opposing school closures and consolidations that was voted on and passed nearly unanimously by the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC) and sent to the SFUSD Superintendent Matt Wayne and the Board of Education. A number of the sponsors of that resolution are running for re-election against a slate of candidates who would love nothing better than to advocate to close our children’s schools and community college campuses and sell the land to developers to build luxury condos. We can’t let them win!

Two DCCC candidates are members of the CCSF Board of Trustees (Vice President Anita Martinez and Trustee Vick Chung). Former SF Board of Education President Sandra Lee Fewer is running, as is Leah LaCroix, who is the former chair of the San Francisco Youth Commission. Working families, students, and educators need their voices on the SF DCCC! RSVP here to volunteer to drop lit for the Labor and Working Families slate so they can win and champion the needs of our public school and community college students.

Our Courts Need Fair, Impartial Judges, not Tough-on-Crime Judges

Both have been endorsed by Our Revolution and SF Berniecrats. RSVP here to volunteer to drop lit for to retain these judges and to keep the San Francisco judiciary impartial and fair.

Black History Month: SF Ed Alliance Endorses Congressman Jamaal Bowman’s Equity or Else Resolution

Congressman Jamaal Bowman’s office invited the SF Education Alliance to be an endorsing organization for his Equity or Else Resolution, and we proudly signed on. This legislation celebrates and uplifts the values of the Equity or Else quality-of-life platform as essential components to changing the belief systems both within and outside of our governmental bodies.

Congressman Bowman held a press conference on January 31, the eve of Black History Month, to celebrate the rich history, culture, and long struggle for justice created and experienced by Black Americans. We honor the legacy of the past by committing to a brighter and more just future for all Americans. Check out the replay of the press conference, which features Congressman Bowman, Journey for Justice Alliance Executive Director Jitu Brown, and AFT (American Federation of Teachers) President Randi Weingarten.

Phone Bank for Rep. Barbara Lee!

Congresswoman Barbara Lee was our phenomenal featured speaker at our Education for All Town Hall on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Bayview Opera House. This is Black History Month, and sadly, there are no Black women currently in the U.S. Senate. In the entire history of the U.S. Senate, only three Black women have served. Help make history by working to elect Barbara Lee to the U.S. Senate! Sign up to phone bank for Barbara Lee’s campaign for U.S. Senate.
