From John Crew, Retired ACLU attorney – posted Friday, January 28th, 4:18pm

The “town hall” – AKA the “information dump” — is Monday at 3:00 p.m.  https://twitter.com/SFPD/status/1487197049279840257

What do “strategic communications” pros and public relations flacks always do with bad news?  They try to bury it with Friday afternoon news alerts.  This tweet  from about an hour ago is very much in keeping with that well known practice but with a new twist I’d never seen before.  They sent out a news release about this to the media at 10:47 p.m. (!) last night when no assignment editor and exceedingly few (if any) journalists were working.    And they sent it out under a headline that didn’t bother to mention that the town hall will be about their recent fatal shooting at SFO.  (It’s about “#003-22”!)  Press release headlines that use only police lingo (OIS) and case numbers are designed to call less attention, not more, to an event they’re doing only because they have to do it.. all while claiming THIS reflects the “San Francisco Police Department’s commitment to accountability and transparency with our community.”

Yes, it does,  It very much reflects exactly that — just like their multi-day failure to acknowledge the victim had non-lethal airsoft replica guns rather than actual “firearms” as they’d initially claimed.  And that “commitment” is, as always, to avoid transparency and accountability to the public as much as they possibly can.

From defundsfpdnow on Instagram:

SFPD murdered Nelson Setzo Wednesday January 20th. They tried to bury the news of this murder with a late night press release about the town hall, and no mention of their execution of a man in the title. Monday we will show them that we are watching no matter how many loopholes they throw us.

We know what they did, and we will hold them accountable.

Leafleting & Bannering

Join CODEPINK in an Emergency Action to speak out against an unnecessary war with Russia which could possibly lead to the use of nuclear weapons.

We are on the brink of a massive war between the US and Russia—two nuclear-armed states. The time to speak out is now! The Russian people don’t want war; the Ukrainian people don’t want war. And we don’t want our soldiers to die in an unnecessary war with Russia!

President Biden has ordered 8,500 US troops to be on heightened alert for possible deployment to Eastern Europe, as the dangerous escalation at the Russian/Ukrainian border standoff intensifies. Biden is also considering sending more warships and aircraft, and has already delivered more “lethal aid” to Ukraine.

The $500 million Congress is set to pass through a fast-track vote, could and should be used on communities and climate.
