What would it take to topple Amazon? To change how health care works in America? To break up the media monopolies that have taken hold of our information and imaginations? How is it possible to organize those without hope working on the margins? In Labor Power and Strategy, legendary strategist, historian, and labor organizer John Womack speaks directly to a new generation, providing rational, radical, experience-based perspectives that help target and run smart, strategic, effective campaigns in the working class.

Carey Dall recently returned to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) from the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way (BMWED-IBT), where he was the Organizing Director for 7 years. The BMWED represents track and structure maintenance workers on the major railroads in all of the lower 48 states. He got his start in the labor movement as a “Salt” working with the ILWU to organize bike and driver messengers in the SF Bay Area. He contributed an essay to Labor Power and Strategy.

Gifford Hartman is a Certified Trainer and Instructional Assistant for the Global Labour University and a member of the San Francisco Bay Area-based Global Supply Chain Study/Research Group. Over the last 25 years he has been an adult educator, labor trainer and working class historian. He has helped organize workshops, seminars, conferences and educational training sessions for unions, labor activists and environmental organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

Peter Olney, co-editor of Labor Power and Strategy, is a retired director of organizing for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). He was Associate Director of the University of California’s Institute for Labor and Employment (ILE). Olney holds a master’s in business administration from UCLA and resides in San Francisco. Olney teaches building trades union organizers as a member of the faculty of the Building Trades Academy at Michigan State University. Olney is an editor of The Stansbury Forum.

“The Industrialization of Sexual Exploitation and Global Capitalism… OR Why “Sex Work” is NOT “Agency” But Degradation and Nightmare… And Why We Need Revolution”

Watch the video and join the discussion and controversy at Revolution Books

Raymond Lotta writes:

The commercial sexual exploitation of women (and of young girls and boys) has reached massive proportions. What is euphemistically referred to as the “global sex industry” has evolved into a highly profitable segment of individual national economies and the world imperialist economy…

“Sex work” is, in its essence, the marketed degradation and organized sexual submission of women to male domination.

Israeli Consulate

The Israeli army killed 11 Palestinians in Nablus (West Bank) on February 22. Sixty Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the year. What is the cause of this escalation?

Join us Friday at the Zionist consulate to demand justice and accountability!

This week Zionist settler mobs protected by Israeli Occupation Forces stormed the occupied village of Huwara, surrounded it and attempted to burn it to the ground.

Israeli human rights group @btselem and many others have called the settler attacks a “pogrom” to describe the attacks on the village. Pogrom is a Russian word meaning “to wreak havoc” and typically describes the violence by Russians against Jewish people, particularly officially-mandated slaughter.

Many are blaming the new Israeli government as the cause of the unimaginable violence towards Palestinians, but the origin of these atrocities is not the Israeli government but Zionism. This isn’t a “loss of control” this is exactly what Israeli control looks like. The settlers carry out the attack, the military secures it, the politicians back it. It’s a synergy.
After Jenin and Jericho, it was in Nablus, in the north of the West Bank, that the Israeli army unleashed its violence, leaving 11 dead and more than 100 injured. B’Tselem, the main Israeli human rights organization denounced this assault: “Israeli forces have killed 60 Palestinians since the beginning of 2023, an average of more than one murder per day. The international community is allowing this, and the United States has just covered for Israel at the UN Security Council.” (February 23)

11. Saturday, 6:30am (PT), Rights of Nature Tribunal: Dangers of Tren Maya Mega Project to Ecosystems & Indigenous

Online globally

Zoom: Webinar Registration – Zoom

The Rights of Nature Tribunal will be holding its eighth local hearing in Yucatan, Mexico from March 9-12, 2023, for the case of the Tren Maya, a rail transportation mega project that puts Mexican ecosystems and communities at serious risk of destruction.
The case will be presented by impacted local communities and experts from around the world, and will be heard by a panel of world-renowned judges, who will examine and rule from a Rights of Nature perspective.

The Tren Maya mega project is not limited to the infrastructural aspect, but also proposes a territorial reorganization focused on the urbanization of indigenous and peasant regions.

This train will travel 1,500 km and will cross five states in southeastern Mexico: Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo. The construction of this rail transportation project requires an investment of 200 billion pesos and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Under the excuse of generating half a million jobs during the construction of the project, this "land use planning" project has major consequences for the destruction of ecosystems and communities. The train route covers regions that are considered great habitats of biodiversity, territories of the Mayan communities that have inhabited them since ancestral times, and that to this day maintain their traditional practices in harmony with Nature.

During a hearing on Dec. 16th, 2022, Judge Lucretia Clemons said that she would allow 60-90 days for further examination of critical evidence in Mumia’s case. As we near the moment where a decision may be made, it’s crucial for our community and concerned citizens – including activists, clergy, educators, scholars and more – to gather and build so that the truth is told and Judge Clemons understands that she must do what is right.

13. Saturday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm, No Dumping Radioactive Water Into The Pacific -No Restarting Nukes In Japan, STOP Militarization & War

In person

Japanese Consulate
275 Battery St. (nr. California St.)
SF

3/11/23 is the 12th anniversary of the Japan Fukushima tsunami and the meltdown of three nuclear reactors at the TEPCO plant. TEPCO would have gone bankrupt without a state take-over of the company. All Japanese governments since that disaster including Abe and the present prime minister Kishida have claimed that the nuclear catasptophe is no longer a danger and Fukushima has been “decontaminated”.

In fact the opposite is the case. The melted nuclear rods remain in the reactors 12 years after the disaster and they still need to be cooled by water causing further contamination.

There still is 407,000 tons of radioactive waste stored in Fukushima and throughout Japan. Now the Kishida government is set to release over 1.3 million tons of contaminated water with tritium into the Pacific Ocean. This is opposed by the people of Japan and many countries in Asia.

At the same time the LDP government is flagrantly violating Article 9 of the Constitution which prevents offensive war by Japan.

The past Abe government and now Kishida are expanding the Japanese military including joining the US controlled imperialist NATO around the world.

The US and Japanese people must stand against opening more nuclear plants, dumping radioactive water into the Pacific and for all US bases out of Japan.

Stop the Coverup!

Immediate Evacuation of The People & Workers Of East Palestine & Full Compensation By Norfolk Southern
Nationalize The Railroads Under Workers Control To Protect Communities, Workers & The Public

The criminal cover-up of the Hunters Point supposed clean-up and remediation by Tetra Tech which cost over $1 billion is now directly connected to the man made catastrophe and poisoning by the Norfolk Southern railroad wreck in East Palestine, Ohio.

Despite the fact the the Department of Justice DOJ has joined a lawsuit against Tetra Tech for falsifying records at Hunters Point shipyard and retaliation against over 10 whistleblowers, the Region 5 EPA in Ohio has allowed Norfolk Southern railroad company to hire Tetra Tech for air testing in East Palestine.
Not surprisingly all the tests came back negative and the railroad and EPA are saying that it is safe. This criminal cover-up by the railroad and Tetra Tech is being allowed by not only EPA officials including EPA administrator Michael Regan but by Biden’s Department of Transportation led by Pete Buttigieg. Why are they protecting these environmental criminals who are poisoning the community and workers?
They have also allowed the Norfolk Southern police to take over the control of East Palestine. They are deciding who goes where to protect their liability and profits.
press conference will connect the dots between the Hunters Point catastrophe and what the people and workers are going through now in East Palestine.  we will discuss the deadly record of the deregulated railroad industry and how the need now is for the nationalization of the industry to protect communities, workers and the public
