We will be joined by an award winning human rights lawyer Angelo Karlo Guillen, who will speak on the relentless attacks on human rights advocates under the guise of the Philippine government’s counterinsurgency operations & his continued advocacy for human rights in the Philippines despite surviving a near fatal stabbing. International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) members who recently traveled to the Philippines and UN headquarters in Geneva will share stories from survivors of war crimes & efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Philippines. We will also hear updates on the Justice for Brandon Lee campaign and upcoming opportunities to get involved.
Speakers:
- Brandon Lee is a human rights defender, environmental activist and journalist. In 2019 Brandon Lee survived an assassination attempt for the work he was doing with indigenous communities in the Cordillera region of the Philippines.
- Attorney Angelo Karlo Guillen is a Filipino human rights defender and is a member and currently the Secretary-General of the Panay chapter of the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL). In 2020, Guillen was arrested and charged along with dozens of activists when they tried to hold a motorcade following the murder of local activist and labor leader Jose Reynaldo Porquia. In March 2021, after months of surveillance, red-tagging, and harassment, he was assaulted and repeatedly stabbed by multiple assailants who then left him for dead. Despite surviving a near-fatal attack, Guillen has continued his work as an NUPL lawyer, human rights defender and advocate.
- Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) is federation of progressive peoples organizations among indigenous communities in the Cordillera Region, Philippines. Brandon was a human rights volunteer for CPA at the time of the assassination attempt. CPA will speak on the current human rights situation in the Cordillera.

3. Monday, 7:00am, The People vs Wells Fargo – Shut Down the Dirty Banks
In person RSVP: The People vs. Wells Fargo – Action Network
Wells Fargo Headquarters
464 California St.
SF
At the end of April, three of the world’s largest funders of fossil fuels will hold their Annual General Meetings: Wells Fargo, Citibank, and Bank of America. These three banks alone have loaned more than $789 billion to coal, oil, and gas companies since the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015.
With allies across the country – we are going to shut down, occupy, and disrupt business at the global headquarters of all three banks the day before their annual shareholder meetings. Citi’s HQ in New York, Bank of America’s HQ in Charlotte, and Wells Fargo’s HQ in San Francisco will each be subject to massive, disruptive and impossible-to-ignore protests, the day before their most important meetings of the year.
Wells Fargo is the world’s third-largest funder of fossil fuels. In 2021 alone, it loaned more than $42 billion to coal, oil, and gas corporations. But at its annual shareholder meeting, investors have a chance to make a real difference. They’ll be voting on resolutions to end financing for fossil fuel expansion, prevent greenwashing, and push the bank to create a climate transition plan.

Join us to learn about the US-backed war crimes being committed by the Philippine Government, the social, economic and political roots of the armed conflict in the Philippines and the ongoing fight to achieve a just and lasting peace.

6. Tuesday, 4:00pm – 5:30pm (PT); 7:00pm – 8:30pm (ET), Ray McGovern: On Russia and Ukraine
Online register: Meeting Registration – Zoom
Retired intelligence analyst Ray McGovern joins us for a discussion about the war in Ukraine. Read Ray’s recent article “The Banality of Biden’s ‘Exceptional’ Elite Advisers” here.
Ray’s talk will not be a mere situation report. Rather, donning his old hat as presidential briefer, Ray will draw on old-school media analysis and the expertise of weapons experts to examine one key motive behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. After the US withdrew from the ABM Treaty, missile holes started to appear in NATO allies Romania and Poland. (They were said to be necessary to meet a threat from Iran). THE PROBLEM: The Kremlin cannot be sure what missiles now dwell – or could eventually dwell – in those holes. Nor could Moscow abide the possibility of similar holes being dug even closer to Russia in Ukraine. Sixty years ago President Kennedy faced a similar situation in Cuba.
Ray McGovern, formerly an Army intelligence and infantry officer, went on to serve at the CIA for 27 years. During this time his duties included chairing the National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief which he briefed to President Reagan’s most senior national security advisors. In 2003, Ray co-created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose how intelligence was being falsified to “justify” war on Iraq. At his retirement, the CIA awarded Ray McGovern with the Intelligence Commendation Medallion for “especially meritorious service.”
In 2006, Ray returned the medal explaining “I do not want to be associated, however remotely, with an agency engaged in torture.” Ray is fluent in Russian, along with English, German, and Spanish.
