Wednesday, March 6

1. Wednesday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, Close Guantanamo

UN Plaza
SF Civic Center
SF

President Biden: CLOSE GITMO NOW!

30 prisoners remain at the US concentration camp opened in 2002, 16 of which have been cleared for release. “An aging, vulnerable population, all of whom are survivors of torture” suffering “real, deep, profound psychological trauma… of enormous anxiety and pain,” witnessed Fionnuala Ni Aolain last year, as the first UN expert to visit the detention facility.

Join the call to STOP TORTURE & 22 years of ongoing human rights violations!

President Biden campaigned to close the off-shore gulag, we must hold him to account.

2. Thursday, 10:00am, Emergency Press Conference & Rally: No More PG&E Rate Hikes!

In person:

CPUC Building
505 Van Ness Ave.
SF

Call-in:

 1-800-857-1917, with passcode 9899501#.

The CPUC will vote to ratify further PG&E electricity rate hikes at a public meeting this Thursday, March 7th!

We demand the CPUC reject the proposed 7.8% rate hike and repeal the 12.8% rate hike that went into effect on January 1st. Utilities are already a heavy burden on the working people of California, and PG&E’s rates are the most expensive in the country. Now, the average Californian household is facing a $53 increase to their monthly bill this year and small businesses will be hit even harder. This is so that PG&E can pay damages for the deadly fires caused by their negligence.

PG&E made 2.2$B in profit in 2023 – a 25% increase from the previous year. The CPUC, the body responsible for the public regulation of utility rates, has allowed PG&E to raise rates uncontested for years. We say no more.

3. Thursday, 6:00pm – 7:00pm, Do you still want San Francisco to be a Sanctuary City?

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church
3215 Cesar Chavez St.
SF

Please RSVP so that room size will be adequate: RSVP to “No More Children Living in the Streets” (google.com)

We need you to join us this Thursday at. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 3215 Cesar Chavez Street, so we can raise our collective voices and hold our City government accountable to making Sanctuary a reality! At least two City Supervisors and representatives from the Department of Homelessness plan to attend.

This Thursday’s meeting will be facilitated by our Recently Arrived Families Committee of unhoused immigrant leaders. They will share personal testimonies and lay out their research exposing the reality that right now, the City of St. Francis is a “Sanctuary City” in name only. New arrivals with small children are being abandoned to sleep under gas station roofs, in vehicles, and on MUNI.

For more details on the immigrant leaders’ experiences and their cost-effective plans to solve the problem of unhoused families living on the streets, please visit https://faithinactionba.org/sanctuary

International Working Women’s Day

4. Friday, 1:00pm, , Revolutionary Friday: Stop U.S. Funding for Genocide; End the Occupation

San Francisco Federal Building
90 7th Street (Corner of Mission & 7th Sts.)
San Francisco, CA

It’s now 5 months, 150 days of Israeli ongoing aggression that has killed at least 30,534 (including 12,300 children) and more people missing in Gaza; and at least 420 (including 110 children) and more missing in the West Bank. Every day, the bombing, killing and maiming of Palestinians continue.

Many other countries have withdrawn their $$ support and weapons to Israel, including supporting sanctioning and boycotting  Israel. Some have take  cases of GENOCIDE against Israel, US and UK to the ICJ.

The US is doing token ‘air drops’ of supplies to Gaza but continues to send weapons and push for over 14Bil. To Israel and votes against UN Resolutions.

We need to end this carnage by calling for a GENERAL STRIKE!!

Our elected federal officials, President Biden, Senators Padilla, Butler and Representative Pelosi, continue to vote for Aid and Weapons to Israel. All are complicit in genocide.

All are welcomed to stand with the Revolutionary Workers Front, Aaron Bushnell Brigade, and Mothers On The March at the SF Federal Building to demand an end to the genocide, illegal and violent occupation and apartheid inflicted on Palestinians by the Zionist Israeli government by the federally elected officials.

We have banners, signs, and chalk for sidewalk messaging. You are also welcomed to bring your own homemade messages.

WE CALL FOR:

  – AN END TO ALL U.S. MILITARY AID AND WEAPONS TO ISRAEL

  – AN END TO THE BLOCKADE OF PALESTINE

  – A CEASEFIRE on the Palestinian people by the Zionist government

  – A GENERAL STRIKE

ViVa ViVa PALESTINA!

What makes California different from other states? The cultural template stamped in the Gold Rush has remained in place ever since: “Come Here, Get Rich”, a dream and location where anything is possible. Or so goes the myth. The reality is more complex. Yes, there was gold, wheat, oil, Hollywood, aerospace, Silicon Valley—recurrent gold rushes still happening today, still making some people rich. But this talk explores the path taken by the vast majority of newcomers—immigrant workers—who perpetually recompose the state’s working class and generate the wealth of the lucky few who grab California’s golden ring. The lens of California labor provides an alternative view of history, the kind that occurs when workers engage in collective action—through unions, politics, strikes, and a variety of organizing strategies seeking common ground among diverse communities to achieve economic fairness and social justice. In the current national resurgence of labor California is once again taking pride of place, with teachers, Hollywood unions, hotel workers and graduate students leading the way. Why did it happen before, and why is it happening now?

Fred Glass served as the communications director for the California Federation of Teachers for nearly thirty years. He taught night classes in labor history at City College of San Francisco until spring 2023.

He wrote and directed Golden Lands, Working Hands, a ten-part video series on the history of the California labor movement, shown on public television stations in California and distributed to every public high school in the state. His book, From Mission to Microchip: A History of the California Labor Movement, was published by the University of California Press in 2016. A short animated cartoon he wrote and directed, with the voice of Ed Asner, Tax the Rich: An Animated Fairy Tale, received a million YouTube views in 2012 and was the subject of unhappy Fox News commentary. His most recent video is We Mean to Make Things Over: A History of May Day. Fred is a member of AFT Local 2121 and serves on the State Committee of California DSA.

10. Monday, 12Noon – 1:00pm, Fukushima Action in SF 13 Years After the Meltdowns-Stop Dumping Tritium into the Pacific

On The 13th Anniversary Of The Fukushima NUKE Disaster

Don’t Nuke the Pacific Ocean! Protect Our Oceans & Stop The Nukes

On the 13th anniversary of the man made disaster in Fukushima and the catastrophe continues. Over 800 pounds of radioactive waste continues to reside in the broken nuclear plants and it may be 30 years before they are removed and the site is “decontaminated”. The previous Prime Minister Abe lied to the International Olympics Committee that it had already been “decontaminated” but this obviously not the case.

The Japanese government and TEPCO despite opposition of people in Japan, Asia and around the world is also releasing millions of tons of tritium into the Pacific Ocean. This is contaminating our oceans and the government is not only going forward but is opening more NUKE Plants but is remilitarizing Japan and is sending armaments around the world.

The Japanese Kashida government is working with the US and Korea to militarize Asia and surround China to prepare for war. They are continuing to build and expand US military bases in Okinawa and threatening the people of Japan with the dangerous Osprey helicopters that fly in the middle of major cities and in Okinawa ignoring the dangers to the people of Japan and Okinawa.

Let us join together to demand the halt to release of tritium water from Fukushima, No restarting NUKE plants and opposing US Korea war militarization in Asia.
