EVENTS / ACTIONS

Friday, April 19 – Monday, April 22

Friday, April 19

1. Friday, 10:00am, San Francisco: Protest March to Reclaim Earth Day – No to Genocide! No to Ecocide!

Meet at:

Embarcadero Plaza
Market & Steuart Sts.
SF

Then we march to our targets: Blackrock and Bank of NY Mellon

RECLAIM EARTH DAY – NO to GENOCIDE! NO to ECOCIDE!

Imperialists out of Palestine, Congo, and Sudan!

Join Youth Vs. Apocalypse and hundreds of youth for our annual youth-led Earth Day action, centering intersectional demands that target the root of oppression.

This year, we are witnessing the US fund the active genocide with over 36,000 Palestinians martyred by the Israeli occupation, we must keep our eyes on the struggles happening all over the Global South. We have a responsibility, as US and western imperialist forces are responsible for this mass suffering. We know it’s our duty as climate justice organizers in the belly of the beast to put pressure on the ruling class in power to ensure liberation for the masses of people, domestically and internationally.

This is why a large coalition of youth leaders and environmental movement organizers have come together to organize an Earth Day action centered around uplifting Palestine, Sudan, and Congo – three countries going through massive violence at the hands of western imperialism.

We believe that the oppression going on in Palestine, Sudan, and Congo is directly related to our core values of environmental justice, youth power, indigenous land stewardship, and the right to self-determination.

From The Bay and Congo to Sudan and Palestine, we say no more extracting resources at the sacrifice of human life and environmental health. All three of these countries are being targeted by greedy corporations, war-profiteering politicians, and imperialist governments to further their genocidal agendas and widen their profits. As they exploit and murder entire communities, they are also destroying the land. Genocide will always be coupled with ecocide. The youth, the people, and the land share a common enemy. As environmental justice organizations, we must stand against imperialism to advance the liberation of the masses of oppressed people and protect the land and its right to flourish.

We will march from the Embarcadero Plaza to our targets: Blackrock and Bank of NY Mellon (BNY Mellon), due to their involvement in investing in imperialist institutions responsible for resource extraction, war, violence, and genocide in the Global South. Blackrock is invested in various corporations furthering imperialism in Palestine, Congo, and Sudan. BNY Mellon is invested in Elbit Systems which is Israel’s largest weapons firm playing a huge role in the current Genocide against Palestinian people.

We are uplifting the movement demands set forth by Palestinian, Sudanese, and Congolese movement organizers. We have an additional demand set forth by the youth leading this event:

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE REQUIRES THE END OF IMPERIALISM. Imperialists out of Palestine, Congo, and Sudan!

Thirty-six hospitals served 2.2 million residents in Gaza on October 6, 2023. The United Nations says that only twelve are “partially functioning” today. Israeli bombs, missiles and artillery have destroyed the rest.

Ambulances and vehicles transporting medical supplies have also been destroyed. Electricity and fuel is severely restricted, with doctors operating in the dark. Medicine, including anesthesia, adrenaline and pain-killers are depleted. Surgery (including amputations on children) is done while patients are wide-awake and screaming in pain. Wounded women and children are dying because of the lack of medical care. Doctors and medical personnel have been killed, evicted, or forced to flee.

Try to imagine Hell. VFHL will focus on Gaza healthcare and hospitals through three videos. Panelists will discuss the destruction of hospitals, collapse of the healthcare system, shortages of medical supplies, unimaginable working conditions, international laws regarding hospitals in war zones, and the needs for rebuilding medical capacity.

Monday, April 22

8. Monday, 10:00am, Sweep The Court

Federal Court House
450 Golden Gate Ave. (nr. Polk St.)
SF

Marching to the State Building at 350 McAllister St, San Francisco, CA 94102 and then to City Hall.

In January 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of Johnson v. Grants Pass, a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that barred municipalities across the western United States from punishing their unhoused residents for sleeping outside, even when there are no available shelter options. With its hard-right conservative majority, SCOTUS will likely overturn Grants Pass, creating a devastating ripple effect for homeless people across the country. Democratic leaders across local and state governments have submitted amicus briefs, or “Friends of the Court” briefs, in support of the overturning of Grants Pass– a deliberate attempt to use the hyper conservative court to enact violence on their poorest constituents.

On April 22nd, 2024, cities across the country will mobilize to show their support for the rights of unhoused people, demanding that the Supreme Court recognize sweeps without the offer of adequate shelter constitute cruel and unusual punishment, a violation of the Eighth Amendment. In San Francisco, where the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is located and the fight for the human rights of homeless people is most storied, join us in mobilizing from the Federal Building, to the State Building, and then ending at City Hall on April 22nd.
STOP THE SWEEPS!
