SF Federal Building

With the Grant Pass decision, the Supreme Court had made it illegal for people to build encampments both in support of Palestine and simply to live. This ruling is not only an anti-houseless anti-poverty measure, but also a direct response to encampments.
We will respond to this pathetic and cruel attempt at repression by taking back our streets and continuing the fight for Palestinian liberation
Join us to take a stand and make clear we are not going anywhere! San Francisco must hear our demands of ending all funds to Israel, the decriminalization of houselessness, as well as embrace the right to remain for houseless folks and Palestinians.

6. Tuesday, 9:00am – 10:00am (PT); 12Noon – 1:00pm (ET), Investigating Political Nonprofits, Scam PACs and More
Virtual Event: https://www.propublica.org/events/investigating-political-nonprofits-scam-pacs-and-more
ProPublica’s new 527 Explorer database delves into the shadowy world of political cash facilitated by nonprofits called 527s. In this webinar, we will show users how to follow the money.
Every year, millions of dollars flow through obscure nonprofits known as 527s. The amount spent has only increased over the years, and more than $1 billion was spent in 2022. While all federal PACs are 527s, the organizations we’re discussing are not regulated by the Federal Election Commission and do not have restrictions on who can contribute or how much they can give.
To help illuminate this group of 527 nonprofits, ProPublica built a searchable database allowing users to explore who funds these organizations and how they spend their money.
In this webinar, we will coach journalists on how to use our database, from generating story ideas to deciphering contributions and expenditures. We will also help readers/general participants better understand money’s influence on politics, enabling users to explore 527s by state, organization and more.
Our speakers include:
Brandon Roberts, news applications developer for ProPublica
Ellis Simani, data reporter for ProPublica
Ilya Marritz, reporter for the Boston Globe
Ruth Talbot, news applications developer for ProPublica
Ken Schwencke, news applications editor for ProPublica (moderator)

8. Tuesday, 5:00pm, Protest New Invasion of Haiti & Police Brutality in Kenya
Meet at:
SF Federal Building
90 7th St.
SF
The Haiti Action Committee condemns the arrival of 400 Kenyan police officers in Haiti and the US-backed invasion to prop up the repressive PHTK regime. The committee also stands in solidarity with the people of Kenya and their protests against IMF-backed austerity measures. The event will include a demonstration and press conference.
Haiti Action Committee condemns the arrival of 400 Kenyan police officers in Haiti on Tuesday, June 25th, as the advance force for the US-funded invasion to prop up and “stabilize” the repressive US-installed PHTK (Haitian Party of Tet Kale) regime. Even though PHTK leader Ariel Henry was forced out of power this past spring, the PHTK remains in control, dominating a newly-installed “transitional presidential council,” thanks to US intervention For this new invasion, the Biden Administration is providing $300 million, including weapons and equipment in the form of 80 humvees, sniper rifles, riot control gear and more.
Although the US claims that the invasion is necessary to quell “gang violence” in Haiti, the “gangs”, more accurately understood as paramilitary death squads, have flourished under PHTK rule as part of the regime’s war on the popular movement. It was the US-backed coup against President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004 and the subsequent US/ UN occupation of Haiti that created the conditions for this paramilitary violence to ravage Haiti. Calling for yet another US-backed invasion and occupation of Haiti is akin to asking arsonists to put out their own fire.
Haiti Action Committee likewise stands in full solidarity with the people of Kenya and their courageous protests against the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-backed austerity measures that the corrupt regime of President William Ruto has attempted to impose.
Join us to denounce this new invasion of Haiti. Join us to stand with the people of Kenya against the Ruto regime.

9. Tuesday, 5:00pm (PT); 8:00pm (ET), Debunking Dangerous Deterrence Theory and Moving Toward Global Nuclear Weapons Abolition
Online registration: Webinar Registration – Zoom

Our speakers will examine the very frightening flaws of deterrence theory that have too often brought humanity to the brink of extinction, and offer practical strategies and tactics to replace it, and to advance the cause of global nuclear disarmament.
We will hear from the following experts:

Online registration: https://secure.everyaction.com/rqTeYq4Pr06l_NA_e9cKPQ2
Russia’s summer offensive is on, and U.S. supplied weapons are being launched against targets threatening a wider, potentially nuclear, war. Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza and settler violence in the West Bank continue, reinforced by U.S. and German weapons. The world’s sixty year-old arms control architecture is in shambles, and in the absence of strategic stability we are on the verge of an all out arms race. Europeans are going to the polls to elect a new European Parliament, and in the United States voters face the disheartening choice between Biden and the would-be dictator Trump.
How are the German and European peace movements responding, and what do they expect of us?
Reiner Braun, who will be in the United States for a counter-NATO conference and rally will be joining this CPDC/MAPA webinar.
Reiner Braun is among the most significant leaders of the German and European peace movements since 1982. The former President and Executive Director of the International Peace Bureau, he was the lead organizer of 2023 Ukraine Peace Summit held in Vienna. Over the years, he has been associated with the Krefelder Appeal, the Max Plank Institute, ILANA, INES, and the German Pugwash group. An organizer, speaker, and prolific author, he was the founder of the No to NATO/No to War International Network, and a leading opponent of NATO’s war in Afghanistan.
