| Chevron has gotten away with atrocities around the world in places like Ecuador, Myanmar and California for far too long. Boycott and divestment campaigns are powerful because they communicate in the only language corporations understand: money. In the 1970’s and 80’s, boycott efforts – including boycotts of gas stations – were critical in ending apartheid in South Africa. More recently, mobilizations and pressure by climate justice movements have seen over $40 trillion (with a T!) dollars withdrawn from the fossil fuel industry. |
