In the days after the November election, it was clear that the Democratic Party had to re-establish itself as the party that fought for economic interests of the majority of Americans – i.e. poor, working-and-middle class Americans. It was also clear that the Party had to do more than just oppose Trump, it had to put forward a powerful positive vision of America. Having said that, three and a half weeks into the Trump Administration, it’s also clear that mainstream “moderate” Democrats, left to their own devices, can’t even oppose Trump effectively – and so progressives and activists have had to show them how it’s done. Make a note of this moment because we’ll return to it in the coming weeks. Why? Because it’s pretty obvious when you connect the dots. There’s a reason why Democrats who’s economic policies favor the investor class over the working class neither have a positive vision for the country nor can they effectively counter MAGA… But that’s for another day. This Sunday is about embracing, and learning about, what’s immediately necessary: blocking Trump’s reactionary, authoritarian, proto-fascist counter-revolution – in the streets, in the courts, in blue states, and even (when progressives take the lead) in Congress. Hartzell Gray, National Coordinator of the Young Progressive Democrats of America (YPDA) will co-host.
