Can you believe the Department of Homeland Security just sent this message out on Twitter? Outrageous!!
Right now, federal agents are attacking Scott Wiener by name — because he dared to demand transparency from law enforcement. DHS is lashing out on social media, calling his bill “despicable” and defending masked, unidentified officers operating in our communities.
Let’s be clear: Scott is being targeted for standing up for democracy. And he needs us now more than ever.

Across California and the country, masked federal agents are roaming our neighborhoods pretending to be local police — detaining workers, students, and families without warning, and without accountability. In some horrifying cases, people have disappeared and been sent overseas.
That’s why Scott has introduced the No Secret Police Act to end this reckless and dangerous abuse of power by banning law enforcement from covering their faces and requiring them to show visible ID to rebuild public trust and protect communities.
We saw the dangerous consequences of masked, unidentifiable officers this weekend in Minnesota when an assailant impersonated a police officer and murdered state officials.
This isn’t law enforcement. It’s authoritarianism – and DHS’s attack on Scott is out of line. It’s Scott’s job to protect Californians – that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Mike, do you believe California should lead the way in restoring trust, transparency, and real accountability in law enforcement? If the answer is yes, we need you to add your name in support of the No Secret Police Act now. This Administration needs to know that a majority of Americans share Scott’s commitment to transparency in policing.
California must not become a place where nameless agents operate in the shadows.
— Erik, Team Wiener
