SAY HER NAME:
The Life and Death of Sandra Bland
Friday, September 20, 2019, 6:30pm
Unitarian Universalist Center 1187 Franklin Street @ Geary Blvd.
The arrest and question-raising death of activist Sandra Bland is poignantly explored in directors David Heilbroner’s and Kate Davis’ film Say Her Name: The life and Death of Sandra Bland.
The film does two things best one is bear witness to what happened on the day of the arrest and place it in the context of Bland’s political life and second chronicles how Bland’s mother and sister respond to the news of her death.
Was it murder or was it suicide? It’s still a question never fully answered but if problems of bad policing of Black Americans led Brian Encinia, the State Trooper, to attack her and if that attack sent her to jail when a white person would have walked free, then racism killed Sandra Bland, no matter who tied the noose.
Free Admission (donations appreciated).
As usual, popcorn and other refreshments will also be available.
