On August 10 @ 5pm PT, please join Anne Irwin and Joy Alferness for a conversation about safety in San Francisco with District Attorney, Chesa Boudin. This will be a town hall format, where you will have an opportunity to ask questions or simply just listen in.

Anne Irwin (SF native) is the founder and director of Smart Justice CA which works to elect and educate policymakers in CA at both the state and local levels who support meaningful, data-driven criminal justice reforms that promote safety, fairness, and healthy communities. She previously was a public defender in SF for 7 years, where she represented thousands of indigent criminal defendants while advocating for their procedural and constitutional rights. During her tenure, Anne uncovered misconduct and civil rights violations within SF Police Department’s plainclothes narcotics units. She also mounted a successful constitutional challenge to the SF Housing Authority’s practice of permanently banning people from all SFHA properties.

Joy Alferness is currently on the board of Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth. CFSY is devoted to abolishing JLWOP (Juvenile Life Without Parole) sentences in the U.S., which is the only country that imposes this sentence. The goal of CFSY is to get a critical mass of states to abolish this unconstitutional practice, and ultimately get a universal ban for the entire U.S.

Details are below. Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to forward the invite.

Thanks,
Juliet
