ANNOUNCEMENTS
Monday, March 4 -Thursday, March 7
Monday, March 4
1. Monday, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Stand with Libraries Tomorrow! OUSD: NO library closures! & No on AB 1840
La Escuelita Elementary School
1100 3rd Ave.
Okland
Community is needed at this meeting, the Oakland teachers will be back in their classrooms! Sorry there isn’t a separate announcement about AB 1840
The board has just rescheduled their budget reductions vote for TOMORROW AT 10:30 AM (try to get there early). Yes, that’s right, this would be during school hours on the first day back from the strike (if teachers vote YES on the tentative agreement today.) We will continue to update this event as we get more news about the strike. We appreciate all your continued support during the past few weeks and the multiple board meeting cancellations.
Tell the board NO to school library closures! Yes to equitable funding!
What’s happening?
A proposed change to Measure G funding will close libraries or drastically reduce services across the district.
Speak during public comment. Students are prioritized to speak first. This will be a hot topic meeting so be prepared to wait a while.
• Voices from ALL Oakland neighborhoods are needed!
AB 1840 The school board will vote on this which would allow Oakland school property to be sold to charter schools and developers. Last Friday, teachers and the community shut down the board meeting to keep this from happening.

3. Monday, 2:00pm – 4:00pm, Lobby Day Part 2: Stop The Sweeps
SF City Hall
1 Dr. Carleton B. Goodlett Place
SF
Meet at Rotunda
we’ll be back in City Hall to visit the offices of Supervisors who have not yet made statements opposing the Sweeps, and urging them to do so in advance of Thursday’s hearing. All are welcome, there’s no need to speak if you don’t want to.
Background: SFPD and the Department of Public Works (DPW), collaborating with the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, have continued the cruel and inhumane practice of “sweeps”, forced relocation and property confiscation of those living on the streets. During the last two rainstorms we know that DPW and SFPD confiscated tents, sleeping bags, and survival gear handed out by DSA SF and allies, leaving people with no way to protect themselves from the elements.
Very few politicians in SF have been willing to own up to sweeps being official city policy, but Sup. Haney has given us a rare opportunity to spotlight the lack of services available during winter storms and the ensuing sweeps.
Hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 7

First West Coast Showing of the documentary that Israel partisans worked to suppress!
Al Jazeera produced a documentary about the Israel lobby in which an undercover reporter secretly filmed lobby activities around the U.S., including at UC Davis and Stanford.
Israel partisans such as former Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz then traveled to Qatar and pressured Al Jazeera not to release it.
The attempt to prevent Americans failed when the film was leaked.
Following a showing of the film, there will be a discussion led by Alison Weir, founder of If Americans Knew, president of the Council for the National Interest, and author of the best selling Against Our Better Judgment: The Hidden History of How the U.S. Was Used to Create Israel.

9. Wednesday, 6:30pm – 7:30pm, Boycott Manny’s and its “Woke-Washing” of the Mission
Manny’s
16th & Valencia St.
SF
STOP THE WOKE-WASHING OF THE MISSION
We are a group of black and brown folks, Jews, Mission Housing tenants, trans and queer people, and many others, who are committed to collective liberation. We are
calling for a community boycott of Manny’s (3092 16th at Valencia, SF) because this new upscale wine bar is yet another gentrifying attack on our community. While Manny’s bills itself as a “community space”, it’s marketed toward white ruling class techies, and its programming often features right-wing politicians who are supported by the luxury condo industry. While Manny’s is on the ground floor of a low-income building run by Mission Housing, its residents had no say in its placement. While countless Latinx cultural spaces are evicted from the Mission, Sam Moss who runs Mission Housing, gave Manny’s a reduced rent.
The owner of Manny’s has worked with Bay Area Zionist organizations. Zionism is a racist ideology that believes Palestinian people have no claim to their land. Zionists, through the state of Israel, enforce this ideology by murdering, arresting, torturing, and displacing generations of Palestinian people. We stand against Zionism, gentrification, anti-Semitism, and all other forms of oppression.
Manny’s is part of a systematic attempt to make gentrification and racism seem “cool” through woke-washing. Woke-washing is the strategy of putting a “social justice” façade on oppressive politics.

10. Thursday, 10:00am (PST), 1:00pm (EST), Free Webinar: No to NATO, Yes to PEACE
Via your computer or phone
Click here: RSVP for instructions on how to join.
Once you register, you will receive an email with the livestream link and call-in information.
NATO is coming to Washington, DC this April to celebrate its 70th birthday. We’re throwing a peace fest to unwelcome the arrival of the largest military alliance in the world. As we gear up for the No to NATO – Yes to Peace Fest, join us on March 7 for a free webinar about why we should be opposing NATO.
The mainstream media is painting a false picture that NATO is a peaceful organization – but we know that it has repeatedly violated international law, and bombed Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Libya. NATO now accounts for three-quarters of all military spending and weapons dealing on the globe.
Panelists are:
· Ana Maria Gower is a Serbian-British mixed media artist and a survivor of the NATO bombings of Yugoslavia and its capital – Belgrade. Being a 10-year-old in a war zone, she witnessed the destruction caused by NATO involvement both during the conflict and for years after. Her art – which will be on display at the April 3 No to NATO – Yes to Peace Fest in DC – focuses on the themes of memories, life path, and experiences of war.
· Jovanni Reyes is the member coordinator of About Face: Veterans Against the War. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1993 and deployed to the Balkans in 1996 as part of NATO’s first ever military intervention, which culminated in the dismemberment of Yugoslavia into six statelets. By 2002, he was no longer moved by the pretexts and false narratives cheerleading for war. He resigned from the military in 2007 and began to work for peace.
· Kristine Karch is the Co-Chair of the No to War/No to NATO Network, based in Europe. She dedicates her life to raising awareness about the destructive and violent social and ecological impacts of NATO, and the EU’s cooperation with it. She has organized numerous No to NATO panels, counter-summits, and demonstrations.

12. Thursday, 11:30am – 2:00pm, Hearing on Rainstorm Sweeps
SF City Hall, Rm 250
1 Dr. Carleton B. Goodlett Pl.
SF
the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is having an “exploratory” hearing into the City’s cold weather policy. The Government of the City of San Francisco has endlessly harassed folks with nowhere to go. The San Francisco Police Department has confiscated peoples tents in the rain, arrested people for creating shelter and not offering more than a temporary stay in a shelter or a cot.
The People of San Francisco and the Bay Area must come together to resist these attacks on working people. Join activists from other Bay Area cities in this action against the attack on the poor and learn about local struggles and ways we can work together to fight back.

“Beyond Recognition,” a film by Michelle Grace Steinberg of Underexposed Films, examines the efforts of indigenous Ohlone people, and in particular one woman, to reclaim their traditional and sacred lands within the urbanized Bay area, inviting questions about the impacts of both past and present land use and development policies on native people. The film follows Corrina Gould, a Chochenyo and Karkin Ohlone woman and Oakland (Huichin) native, on her quest to establish the first urban indigenous women-led land trust in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After the film screening, a panel discussion will be moderated by Alexander Tavizon, Bay Area Outreach Coordinator for the California Indian Environmental Alliance (CIEA). Panelists will include Corrina Gould of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, Valentin Lopez of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and Land Trust, and Yana Garcia, Assistant Secretary for Environmental Justice and Tribal Affairs at the California Environmental Protection Agency.
This panel and film screening will be an opportunity to learn and engage with tribal voices and representatives. Themes discussed in the panel will include land conservation, cultural stewardship, preservation of sacred sites and visions for our communities.

SF March & Rally:
Hands Off Venezuela! NO coup, war or sanctions
Saturday, March 9
12 Noon
Meet at:
Civic Center / UN Plaza Station
San Francisco
Join us on March 9 for a march and rally against the Trump administration’s effort to engineer a coup in Venezuela and a new devastating war there. The aggressive policy against Venezuela repeats the ugly pattern of wars for regime change in the oil-rich countries of Iraq and Libya.
National Security Advisor John Bolton is reading from the same script, declaring a “troika of tyranny” in Latin America (like George W. Bush’s “axis of evil”) as a precursor for regime change first in Venezuela, and then Cuba and Nicaragua. Trump officials are openly talking about seizing Venezuela’s vast oil reserves — the largest in the world.
It is time to stand up and with a clear voice say NO to the newest example of the “Monroe Doctrine,” which the U.S. government has used for over two centuries to repeatedly invade Latin America and Caribbean, control its politics and extract its resources.
The White House aims to overthrow the government of President Nicolás Maduro and replace him with Juan Guaidó. Guaidó is a U.S.-trained operative who was unknown to the vast majority of Venezuelans before he proclaimed him-self president — at Vice President Mike Pence’s urging. Although Guaidó has the backing of Trump, the CIA, and the Republican and Democratic Party leaderships alike

– Fukushima and the surrounding areas are NOT safe or clean of radiation.
– There’s an increase of thyroid cancer in children
– The 2020 Summer Olympics is still scheduled for Japan. Some of the areas where the Olympics will be held is only 50 km away from Fukushima. This puts athletes and tourist at risk.
The Abe government is also pushing for militarization and removal of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution that prevents military interventions outside Japan. They are also pushing for a new US military base in Okinawa despite the opposition of the mass of Okinawan people and the governor. This base would also have US nuclear ships and weapons which is presently against the US Japan Security Agreement.
