– Fukushima and the surrounding areas are NOT safe or clean of radiation.

– There’s an increase of thyroid cancer in children

– The 2020 Summer Olympics is still scheduled for Japan. Some of the areas where the Olympics will be held  is only 50 km away from Fukushima. This puts athletes and tourist at risk.

The Abe government is also pushing for militarization and removal of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution that prevents military interventions outside Japan. They are also pushing for a new US military base in Okinawa despite the opposition of the mass of Okinawan people and the governor. This base would also have US nuclear ships and weapons which is presently against the US Japan Security Agreement.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Friday, March 8 – Monday, March 11

Friday, March 8

1. Friday, 6:00am – 9:00pm, Facebook Infoshare: US-Israeli State Violence

Here is the link to the map – https://palestineishere.org/

Police militarization is rapidly escalating in the United States. From predictive policing to the use of drones to body cameras, new strategies and tactics are unfolding that further enhance law enforcement’s ability to stalk, brutalize, and criminalize. We now know that, frequently, U.S. law enforcement is learning strategies and tactics that are being used by the Israeli military against the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. U.S. law enforcement contingents are routinely traveling to Israel to study these strategies and tactics, and are then bringing them back to the U.S. for implementation.

Researching the American-Israeli Alliance has put together a digital mapping project titled “Palestine is Here” that shows where this collaboration has happened and is happening. You’ll find that there is a high-likelihood that this collaboration has happened with your local law enforcement. If it hasn’t, it’s reasonable to expect it will in the near future.

From Researching the American-Israeli Alliance: “Palestine is Here, a project of Researching the American-Israeli Alliance (RAIA), is a database tracking Israeli military ties to American local government, police departments, corporations, and academic institutions.

While carrying out a vicious assault on women’s rights here, the Trump administration is threatening a new war on Venezuela. Such a war would cause immense suffering for the Venezuelan people, particularly women. The vital social programs established by Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution that provide free education and healthcare, and subsidized housing and food programs will be overturned. Women have played a key role in building these revolutionary programs and are standing along with their brothers against U.S. threats.

Throughout history, women have led struggles for justice, not just for their own liberation but for the liberation of all workers, from the abolition of slavery to anti-colonial struggles to women’s equality and workers’ rights. Join us for presentations on women fighters of the past and present at home and abroad.

11. Saturday, 12 Noon – 3:00pm, SF March & Rally: Hands Off Venezuela! NO coup, war or sanctions

Meet at:

Civic Center / UN Plaza Station

355 McAllister St.

SF

Join us on March 9 for a march and rally against the Trump administration’s effort to engineer a coup in Venezuela and a new devastating war there. The aggressive policy against Venezuela repeats the ugly pattern of wars for regime change in the oil-rich countries of Iraq and Libya.

National Security Advisor John Bolton is reading from the same script, declaring a “troika of tyranny” in Latin America (like George W. Bush’s “axis of evil”) as a precursor for regime change first in Venezuela, and then Cuba and Nicaragua. Trump officials are openly talking about seizing Venezuela’s vast oil reserves — the largest in the world.

NO to the newest example of the “Monroe Doctrine,” which the U.S. government has used for over two centuries to repeatedly invade Latin America and Caribbean, control its politics and extract its resources.

The White House aims to overthrow the government of President Nicolás Maduro and replace him with Juan Guaidó. Guaidó is a U.S.-trained operative who was unknown to the vast majority of Venezuelans before he proclaimed him-self president — at Vice President Mike Pence’s urging. Although Guaidó has the backing of Trump, the CIA, and the Republican and Democratic Party leaderships alike, huge numbers of Venezuelans have marched to reject this coup and defend their independence.

21. Monday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, On the 8th Anniversary of Fukushima – STOP the NUKES

Japanese Consulate

275 Battery St (nr. California)

SF

Also see item # 24

This is the 8th anniversary since the meltdowns of three nuclear reactors in Fukushima. Despite over 8 years the melted nuclear rods have yet to be removed and there are thousand of tons of radioactive water in tanks surrounding the plant. The Abe government has said told the world and the Olympics

Committee that Fukushima has been decontaminated. This is a falsehood. The government has also raised the acceptable levels of radioactive contamination for the area and are demanding that families and children return or they will lose the subsidies for housing.

There has been an increase level of thyroid cancers on children and people in the region and the government has sought to censor this increasing rate of cancer.

On the 8th anniversary there will be several events in the bay area that we urged you to attend.
