Special Requests to Support Youth Activist on Friday, April 21st  (East Bay & San Francisco)

“Friends,
I’m reaching out to you in hopes you can help provide food for the amazing
Youth Vs. Apocalypse Climate Strikers as they fight for a just and livable future.
They’ll be holding a major Earth Day action on Friday, April 21, 2023. (Details below.)

We will be providing lunches, water and snacks for about 500 students who need a “school lunch” alternative.
Because there will be so many lunches for this large action, we are trying something new:

To supplement the 300 hot lunches we’ll serve, we are looking for volunteers to prepare small batches of sandwiches on Friday morning to deliver to the action. (Please recruit a friend to join in the fun!)

The best ways to help are:
  • Set up and serving at the action, San Francisco Civic Center, Friday 4/21 10 am – 2 pm (or some portion)
  • Preparing hot lunch, washing fruit, etc. Thursday afternoon in Berkeley (outdoors), 1-5 pm
  • Preparing 10-20 sandwiches in your home on Friday morning, and delivering to an East Bay or SF location.
  • Preparing homemade cookies/muffins/bars and delivering to an East Bay or SF location

Instructions:

If you can help out with any of these tasks, please sign up here

 – Request is from 1000 Grandmothers – you don’t have to be a grandmother to support / participate

EVENTS

Monday, April 10

1. Monday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (Mon thru Fri), Eviction Support Needed – Wood Street Community

In person

During the next two weeks please show up at

1707 Wood Street in West Oakland any time between Monday and Friday, 8:30am to 5pm to witness and support!

**Critical mass is needed first thing tomorrow morning and for press conference at 10am**

APTP recognizes that all violence is state violence. The state has created the conditions for violence to exist and persist in our communities through a combination of neglect, chronic divestment and over-criminalization. The safest communities have the most resources, not the most cops. That’s why, in addition to fighting against police terror, we are fighting for investment in our communities so we can all thrive.

Our unhoused neighbors being evicted by the City of Oakland with no permanent housing options to turn to is state violence! The expansive Wood Street settlement used to span for 25 blocks and had an estimated 300 residents. Now the upwards of 60 residents who remain are being forced out.

There will be a resource table close to the site (near 18th & Wood St) where you can drop off donations and find a point person who can give volunteers further direction

Bring ready charged phones and be ready to document, please focus the view on law enforcement and city workers.

Wear closed toe shoes, masks, gloves recommended.

People are needed: Copwatching, moving support, ready to eat food delivery, water and more.

Landlords are mobilizing against permanent tenant protections and your voice is needed on Tuesday, April 11!

Black renters are TWICE as likely to face eviction as white renters. The eviction moratorium will soon end in Oakland and we are calling on all tenants and allies to come out in person to Oakland City Hall to speak in support of strengthening permanent tenant protections to help prevent an eviction tsunami!

We are calling on all tenants and allies to come out in person to City Hall to speak in support of Nikki Fortunato Bas, Council President 勵琪 and CM Kalb’s proposal to phase out the COVID Eviction Moratorium while strengthening permanent tenant protections. proposal is hardly radical and is more than fair to landlords, they are guaranteed to turn out in numbers to oppose it. If YOU are a tenant and the eviction moratorium has helped you, your voice is needed!

If you are a tenant who has been helped by the moratorium, or if you’ve ever been impacted by an eviction, please come out and tell your story. Make your voice heard!

This is the 12th anniversary of the Japan Fukushima tsunami and the meltdown of three nuclear reactors at the TEPCO plant. The melted nuclear rods remain in the reactors 12 years after the disaster and they still need to be cooled by water causing further contamination.
There still is 407,000 tons of radioactive waste stored in Fukushima and throughout Japan.
The Kishida government is set to release over 1.3 million tons of contaminated water with tritium into the Pacific Ocean despite the opposition of the people of Japan and many countries in Asia.

The US and Japanese people must stand agains opening more nuclear plants, dumping radioactive water into the Pacific and for all US bases out of Japan.

“Support for Israel” is often called the third-rail of U.S. politics. Any elected official daring to criticize Israel in any way will get “burned.” Why is that? What exactly is the Israel Lobby, and what is the extent of its power?
“Marketing the Israeli Occupation – Part One” “Support for Israel” is often called the third-rail of U.S. politics. Any elected official daring to criticize Israel in any way will get “burned.” Why is that? What exactly is the Israel Lobby, and what is the extent of its power?

When Al Jazeera produced a 4-part documentary series on this lobbying “industry,” it received such intense pressure it was forced to cancel the broadcast. Then, The Electronic Intifada posted a leaked copy. THE LOBBY–USA, Episode 4 of series follows an undercover journalist posing as a pro-Israel volunteer who gets unprecedented access to the operations of Israel lobby groups in Washington, D.C. We watch as Israel’s covert campaign strives to influence partisan politics, campus life, major network news reporting, and social media in America. This will be the first in a series of VFHL salons on the theme “Marketing the Israeli Occupation.”
