1. Monday, 10:00am, SF Budget & Appropriations Committee Meeting
SF City Hall (Room 250)
1 Dr. Carleton B. Goodlett Pl
SF
Sorry I didn’t get this out sooner
Agenda: Meeting Agenda (sfbos.org)
Supervisors on committee: Connie Chan, Rafael Mandelman, Myrna Melgar, Shamann Walton, Aaron Peskin
Public comment was early in the committee’s agenda. I don’t know what the outcome is/was.
My opinion:
Yes, direct service programs are at risk with the budget cuts – but these programs also need to be accountable. This last year corruption of some non-profits that were to provide direct services to the people have been exposed. There needs to be accountability!
Knowing the economic situation in SF I don’t see the below elected officials turning down their increases, yet the mayor has propose cutbacks in all departments with the exception of the police (whose budget has been increased)
From SF Standard article:

3. Tuesday, 3:30pm – 6:00pm, Where Olive Trees Weep Film Screening & Q&A with speakers
Grand Lake Theater
3200 Grand Ave.
Oakland
Tickets: Oakland – Where Olive Trees Weep
Evening showing is sold out
Join us for an in-person screening of “Where Olive Trees Weep”, plus a Q&A with Ashira Darwish, Dr. Gabor Maté, Maurizio & Zaya Benazzo, and music by Hashem Abdel-Hadi.
“Where Olive Trees Weep” which offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.
We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons.
Ancient landscapes bear deep scars, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, water deprivation, and denial of basic human rights. Yet, through the veil of oppression, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives.
This emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty

5. Friday, 5:00pm, TRANS JUSTICE MEANS: CEASEFIRE NOW! CARE NOT COPS!
Meet at
Mission High School
18th & Dolores St.
SF
March at 5:30pm
❣ NOTE: KN95 masks are required for this contingent. Please see the RSVP form for additional COVID & access info! ❣
This year, the 10th Annual API Contingent, we march in the midst of an ongoing genocide in Gaza, & in a city where Mayor @londonbreed proposes a life-threatening budget for police over people. The IDF raises rainbow flags to justify US bombs destroying Palestinian lives. The Mayor says trans & queer people need police—not housing, healthcare, or community.
We REFUSE their horrific pinkwashing. We want these billions spent on cops & bombs to go to our people! We will march to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, & to demand that our city prioritize CARE, NOT COPS.

Am hoping that in DC and the surrounding areas that there is a physical GENERAL STRIKE FOR PALESTINE
NO BUSINESS AS USUAL!
Start: Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 9:00 PM PT
End: Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 8:59 PM PT
This is a virtual event
RSVP: July 24 Strike Against Netanyahu – Action Network
OUR LABOR AND TAXES PAY FOR THIS GENOCIDE. WHEN NETANYAHU COMES TO THE U.S. TO SPEAK TO CONGRESS, WE STRIKE TO SHUT DOWN THE U.S. ECONOMY.
OUR GOAL: ONE MILLION AMERICANS WILL STRIKE ON JULY 24
This means we need 20,000 people to strike in each state. For this to happen, we need YOUR help.
· Sign up to pledge to strike on July 24. You will get emails that you can forward to friends, family, coworkers and neighbors to encourage them to strike.
· The vast majority of Americans are against this genocide, but feel helpless in what they can do to stop it. This strike is an opportunity for them to act.
Is 1 million people striking realistic?
Yes, half a million people voted Uncommitted in their state’s primary election. One million Americans striking for Gaza is very achievable.
How do I know that a million people are striking?
The number of people that have pledged to strike will be reported each week to track our progress.
Don’t wait till July 24 to send a message. Submit your time off request today.
