On April 15, 2024, (Income Tax Day) Bay area community members protested on the Golden Gate Bridge for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel.
A year later, they are still facing trumped up felony charges and a $162,554 restitution claim from the Golden Gate Bridge District.
Because of Bridge District’s high restitution claim, the GG26’s charges cannot be lowered or dropped, putting them on the path to trial.
The prosecution of the GG26 is occurring within the context of escalating repression, from the revocation of student visas to the detention and deportation of individuals speaking out for Palestine. This restitution claim isn’t about toll fees—it’s about using institutional power to silence dissent and punish those who fight for collective liberation. The Bridge District now has a choice: to uphold its responsibility to the public, or to align with a conservative prosecution aimed at silencing their constituents.
The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District and DA Brooke Jenkins are using a $163K restitution claim to bolster a politically charged prosecution against the Golden Gate 26. They want to dissuade our community members from taking action against genocide.
The Golden Gate District Board of Directors will be meeting on Friday, July 25!!

The board has never set restitution for any traffic closure case. Including the vaccine protest in 2021.
This politically motivated prosecution is draining is draining our city’s public resources.
Your high restitution clam forces the GG26 to trial – costing taxpayers for more than the claim itself, as Judge Conroy already noted.
It’s not to late to shift course.
As this legal case continues, we are watching Palestinians face starvation and death through U.S./Israeli enforced famine.
There are daily reports of civilians, many of them children being shot and targeted at aid stations by the IOF
We stand with the GG26 for protesting against the genocide of Palestinians.
